Trump Comes to Israel Citing a Palestinian Deal as Crucial

For years, Mr. Netanyahu has sought to recalibrate relations with Sunni Arab nations in a mutual bid to counter the Shiite-led Iran, while subordinating the Palestinian dispute as a secondary issue. But as Mr. Trump arrived in Jerusalem after meetings in Saudi Arabia, the president indicated that he and those Arab states see an agreement with the Palestinians as integral to that new regional alignment.

.. Mr. Trump added that line to the remarks prepared for him, in effect tying the future of the anti-Iran coalition to the Palestinian issue despite Mr. Netanyahu’s longtime efforts to unlink the two. “There is a growing realization among your Arab neighbors that they have common cause with you in the threat posed by Iran

.. toward the end of the day, Mr. Netanyahu skipped right over the Palestinian question to focus on Iran.

.. He also credited Mr. Netanyahu with being serious about peace with the Palestinians, an assessment the prime minister’s critics do not share

Rebranding Hamas

The Palestinian militant group Hamas dropped its explicit call for Israel’s destruction on Monday, in a bid to overhaul its image as the Trump White House explores reviving Middle East peace efforts. Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, also formally accepted in its revised charter the notion of a Palestinian state in territories Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war. The group didn’t recognize Israel and still expressed an ambition to take over all Israeli territory in the long run. U.S. and Israeli officials said they didn’t see the move as a real shift in the approach of Hamas.

Digital Marketing Ideas for Authors

  1. Get your own domain name.
    • A domain name is a permanent internet address that you own.  Examples:
      1. openpolitics.com (my domain name)
      2. emtiazzourob.com,  or
      3. emtiazalnahhal.com
    • I found your blogspot blog:
      1. emtiazalnahhal.blogspot.com
      2. Blogspot is good, but it would be better if your site’s address were independent of blogspot.com
    • Having your own domain name allows you to customize the site, and add additional features, or switch to a different hosting provider without having to change the site’s address.
    • You can purchase your own domain name for about $10-15/year.
    • There are many different companies through which you can purchase  a domain.
      1. I use namecheap.com
      2. I would recommend gandi.net if your site might be controversial because I think gandi will be more likely to stand up for you if others are trying to censor you.
  2. Optional: Switch Your Blog to Your Own Domain Name
    • Move from emtiazalnahhal.blogspot.com to emtiazalnahhal.com.
    • I can help you with the transfer if you like.  Talk to me more if you’re interested in this.  This would also mean a switch in software from blogspot to wordpress.
  3. Register for Twitter
    1. If you don’t already own your username on twitter, I would sign up, if for no other reason than to reserved your name.
    2. Unlike Facebook, Twitter is public.  If you want to get a message out to the public, Twitter can be more effective than Facebook.
  4. Get Business Cards to hand out at readings
    • List the domain name that you purchased in step 1, your twitter name, your email address, and any other info you want, such as phone number.
    • Your physical address may change if you move to a different apartment, but your gmail address and domain name can stay the same.
    • There are many places to get business cards.  I don’t have experience ordering my own cards.
      1. I’ve heard advertisements for www.vistaprint.com but I don’t know how good they are.
  5. Get your own Email Lists
    • You can collect email addresses from people at readings and put a signup form on your website.   As you collect them you can categorize them based on language or interest.  You can send some emails to the whole group and others to a subgroup (like English).
    • The big advantage to email lists is that you can reach out to people who don’t follow you on Facebook or Twitter when you have a book to sell, or an event to publicize.
    • There are many sites that offer group email functionality.
      1. Constant Contact is a popular site for non-profits
      2. I recommend MailChip to people starting up because they are free for lists smaller than 2000 people.

Trump’s Push for Mideast Deal Perplexes Israeli Right

Many in ruling coalition, and West Bank settlers, are content with the way things are

Much of Israel’s governing coalition is pretty happy with the status quo.The Israeli economy is booming. Jewish population growth has nearly caught up with Palestinian birthrates. And the level of violence remains at historic lows. The wars ravaging the wider Middle East, meanwhile, have distracted regional attention from the Palestinians’ predicament and have even pushed countries such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia toward more cooperation with Israel.

.. “There is nothing more sustainable than the current situation that has already existed for 50 years and that is getting better all the time,” said retired Brig. Gen. Effie Eitam

.. That’s why Mr. Trump’s ambition to resolve the intractable dispute—a solution that would likely require Israel to accept Palestinian statehood and give up most of the territory it has occupied since 1967—has confounded Israel’s right-wing coalition ..

.. Mr. Netanyahu’s cabinet—seeking to accommodate American requests—has already imposed modest new limits on West Bank settlement expansion.

That’s not something that the West Bank settlers’ leaders had expected from a Trump White House.

.. the Yesha Council, said it was disappointing that Washington still wanted to halt settlement growth instead of looking for new “out of the box” solutions.

.. it won’t be solved by one side getting an order not to build so that children [of settlers] cannot live next to their parents—while the Palestinians can build as much as they can, and are building new cities,”

.. “To be honest,” he said, “nobody knows what will happen with Trump tomorrow.”
