Infidelity Lurks in Your Genes

Forty percent of the variation in promiscuous behavior in women could be attributed to genes.

.. Using a virus as a delivery vehicle to transmit the vasopressin receptor gene, it’s easy to artificially boost the number of vasopressin receptors in the brain’s reward center, and make a male vole behave monogamously. The story for female voles is similar except that it is oxytocin, not vasopressin, that triggers monogamous behavior.

.. Oxytocin appears to make us more socially trusting — even in situations where it may not be in our best interest to do so.

Why Are Christian Divorce Statistics So High?

The church has become very legalistic concerning roles in marriage, and divorce issues.  The attempt to control families and keep marriages together by legalism is cultish and is backfiring terribly.  This is the reason that we have the highest divorce rate.

..  Leaders need to grasp the Biblical truth that the law kills, but the Spirit brings life.  Leaders have been heaping dump trucks of man-made doctrines on the Body, which violate the core relationships of couples and families.  We have placed laws over love.  Marriages should be based on and grounded in love.  We know love is the greatest, yet the church does not take love seriously.  We have called love wishy-washy and undependable even though the Bible says that love never fails.

.. We need to make people realize that marriages are breakable !  A bowl made of plastic is unbreakable, and therefore, may be kicked around.  A fine porcelain bowl is breakable.  Therefore, it is treated with care and respect.

The mystery of billionaires’ long marriages

How can I be as great as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk or Sir Richard Branson? The short answer, she wrote, is you can’t.

The longer answer amounts to one of the best explanations of success I have ever read. According to her it comes in two types: normal success – involving hard work, talent etc – and extreme success – as enjoyed by her ex. The normal variety she recommends; the extreme version is only available to those who are born that way. “They are dyslexic, they are autistic, they have ADD, they are square pegs in round holes, they piss people off, get into arguments, rock the boat.”

.. In other words, billionaires are rotten people to marry. Which is also precisely what I had always thought.

.. I wonder if it might be that when the truly weird find someone who suits them, they don’t give them up in a hurry. Or perhaps it is that if you are transfixed by your work, an affair offers insufficient thrill. Or it could simply be that if you hardly ever see your spouse, he or she is significantly less likely to get on your nerves — Lucy Kellaway

Why Massachusetts Led the Way on Same-Sex Marriage

“Because it fulfills yearnings for security, safe haven, and connection that express our common humanity,” Ms. Marshall wrote then, “civil marriage is an esteemed institution, and the decision whether and whom to marry is among life’s momentous acts of self-definition.” Decisions about sexual intimacy and raising children are, the opinion said, “among the most basic of every individual’s liberty and due process rights.”
