In the early seventies, young and righteous law students were given the chance to study how the law impacts everyday citizens with a new legal field called Public Interest Law (think: environmental and labor rights). That discipline’s founding was no happy accident. Philanthropic and activist organizations helped universities develop curricula and nurtured young lawyers to put the public good before their own big corporate salaries. Those same strategies are now being used to develop another new field: Public Interest Technology.
