Review: On ‘Late Show’ Premiere, Stephen Colbert Tries to Bring Big Back to Late Night
But with Jeb Bush, the Republican presidential candidate, the host showed he had both fastballs and changeups in his repertoire. Mr. Colbert used his own brother in the audience, with whom he disagrees politically, to ask Mr. Bush how he could love his own brother, former president George W. Bush, yet differ from him on policy. (Mr. Bush said he’d be more fiscally conservative, but only after Mr. Colbert refused to let him wiggle out with a joke answer.)
.. but it knows exactly who its host is: a smart, curious, playful entertainer who’s delighted to be there.
