Genesis Highlights
Chapter 1
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars.
26 Then God said, “Let us make humankind[c] in our image, according to our likeness

So God created humankind[e] in his image,
in the image of God he created them;[f]
male and female he created them.Chapter 2
17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die.”
.. and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.
23 Then the man said,
“This at last is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
this one shall be called Woman,[d]
for out of Man[e] this one was taken.”24 Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his wife, and they become one flesh.
Chapter 3
yet your desire shall be for your husband,
and he shall rule over you... “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife
The man named his wife Eve,[c] because she was the mother of all living.
22 Then the Lord God said, “See, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— 23 therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden
Chapter 4
5 but for Cain and his offering he had no regard.
.. Listen; your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground!
.. Whoever kills Cain will suffer a sevenfold vengeance.
.. At that time people began to invoke the name of the Lord.
Chapter 6
The Nephilim were on the earth in those days
.. And the Lord was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart
.. “I will blot out from the earth the human beings I have created—people together with animals and creeping things and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”
.. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you; and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.
.. Take with you seven pairs of all clean animals
.. the waters swelled above the mountains, covering them fifteen cubits deep.
24 And the waters swelled on the earth for one hundred fifty days.
7 and sent out the raven;
.. or will I ever again destroy every living creature as I have done.
.. The fear and dread of you shall rest on every animal of the earth
.. “Cursed be Canaan;
lowest of slaves shall he be to his brothers.”.. I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
.. 13 Say you are my sister, so that it may go well with me because of you, and that my life may be spared on your account.”
.. Now there was a famine in the land. So Abram went down to Egypt to reside there as an alien, for the famine was severe in the land.
Chapter 15
.. And he believed the Lord; and the Lord[b]reckoned it to him as righteousness.
7 Then he said to him, “I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to possess.”
.. and a deep and terrifying darkness descended upon him. 13 Then the Lord[c] said to Abram, “Know this for certain, that your offspring shall be aliens in a land that is not theirs, and shall be slaves there, and they shall be oppressed for four hundred years; 14 but I will bring judgment on the nation that they serve, and afterward they shall come out with great possessions.
.. when she saw that she had conceived, she looked with contempt on her mistress.
9 The angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit to her.”
14 Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.”
.. 21 But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this season next year.”
Chapter 18
5 But Sarah denied, saying, “I did not laugh”; for she was afraid. He said, “Oh yes, you did laugh.”
.. whatever Sarah says to you, do as she tells you, for it is through Isaac that offspring shall be named for you.
Chapter 20
.. Because you have done this, and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will indeed bless you
Chapter 24
.. “Put your hand under my thigh 3 and I will make you swear by the Lord,
.. 14 Let the girl to whom I shall say, ‘Please offer your jar that I may drink,’ and who shall say, ‘Drink, and I will water your camels’
.. 30 As soon as he had seen the nose-ring, and the bracelets on his sister’s arms, and when he heard the words of his sister Rebekah,
.. “Who is the man over there, walking in the field to meet us?” The servant said, “It is my master.” So she took her veil and covered herself.
.. He took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.
