47 percent said that they would not have the resources to meet an unexpected expense of $400 — $400! They would have to sell something or borrow to meet that need, if they could meet it at all.
.. I know some folks will chastise those in such dire straits as not being prudent stewards of their own earnings. That the poor retired and soon to be retired should have managed things better. But there’s a thing called “life” and so many “average” citizens don’t have access to the special favors and networks enjoyed by the rich and most certainly our political class. Even some of our political candidates–Carley Fiorina comes to mind–have amassed great wealth despite records of business failure, given the structure of corporate pay.
