ER models do have their place in the data warehouse. First, the ER model should be used in all legacy OLTP applications based on relational technology. This is the best way to achieve the highest transaction performance and the highest ongoing data integrity. Second, the ER model can be used very successfully in the back-room data cleaning and combining steps of the data warehouse.
