This video shows how cops lie with no worries about getting in trouble even with the camera recording them lie. That’s why qualified immunity and police unions need to go. Citizens need more accountability for bad cops.

Cop attacks, unlawfully detains, is out of jurisdiction citing people and doing all sorts of shady stuff, but it’s the citizen who’s being “hostile”. Well, everybody needs to be “hostile” towards these pignorant tyrants.

Nothing speaks to guilty behavior like destroying evidence —like removing entire city boundary signs.
Obviously it was the police that cut the sign. If it was municipal road maintenance, they would not have left the dangerous and sharp stubs sticking up. Sharp stubs hidden in the vegetation at the end of a sidewalk, perfect for a child to fall on and seriously hurt themselves. Even in construction sites, we put bright orange plastic ‘mushrooms’ over the ends of rebar to prevent injury. This is totally irresponsible and a huge liability issue.
If the cop was so afraid of someone “he doesn’t know” coming up to him, why did he exit his car? This cop is a coward who uses the protection of the state to act tough.
Chestnuts News called and left a message for the Chief of Police of Hamburg. Much to his surprise he actually returned his call. He said that officer Sullivan was completely out of line for
1) sitting outside Hamburg,
2) not de-escalating the situation,
3) writing retaliatory tickets against a journalist who caught him breaking the law.
He said he doesn’t know what happened to the Welcome to Hamburg sign, his investigation will include looking to see if any cameras at area businesses might have caught the sign removal, and in fact he was going there right after his phone call to go out there to see if it got dumped on the side. He said he was going to require officer Sullivan to take remedial training on de-escalation skills as well as making sure other officers are aware of the 100 foot rule (not 100 yards). He said none of his officers should be going outside the city limits unless it’s absolutely necessary. He asked what is going to happen to AEC’s retaliatory ticket and he said he was going to get with the DA to see if they can get it dismissed before court date. He said I have to say I’m really impressed with this Chief. He was open, humble, and he seemed to be honest. He said if he discovered that someone inside the department removed the sign they would be fired and charged with theft.

Cutting down the sign is misprision of evidence. Depose whatever the local equivalent of the public works department is. Someone has committed a felony. They won’t face criminal consequences, but it will cement the city’s civil liability.
A valuable LESSON to ALL AUDITORS in this video is: ALWAYS do a nice, steady, slooow, 360* pan more than once during a video (maybe zoomed in just a little depending on distances involved) of the entire area. WHY? Well in this video, such a careful, clear, slow 360* scan would have clearly cemented WHERE exactly the cop’s car was sitting and which WAY it was facing, WHERE exactly the auditor’s truck was sitting (it could have/should have been parked several feet more away from the road as THERE WAS NO SIDEWALK THERE (who else caught that right away when they headed for his truck?) and it would have clearly shown the CITY LIMIT SIGN existence and location in relation to the cop’s car, the auditor’s truck, etc. Details being recorded OFTEN DO MATTER in these audit videos, and…the camera can only see what it is pointed at and focused on during the recording of the video.

Who’s the “bad cop” here? Answer: It’s the 2 other officers on scene that did nothing to stop and deescalate the unlawful detention. They knew their fellow officer was wrong and they didn’t stop him.
He actually said “sneak up on me”. Broad daylight with a camera… That’s an admission of poor situational awareness. Acting like a tough guy but scared of every citizen interaction. Every department policy claims to be professional and courteous when interacting with the community… I have yet to see this expected behavior from the police.

This cop knew from the get-go that he was busted. I think that he felt that he could intimidate his way out of the situation, but he failed at that also. He reached into his bag of lies and came up with “Walking in the street, then it was demanding ID for illegally parked. His fellow officers should have put the choke collar on him by then, but that did not happen, so they should be named in the lawsuit as well. This poor excuse for an officer needs to be taken down a few notches and get some mandatory retraining.
He wanted his name to try to get the upper hand. It was like this, “Ok, you know I’m writing tickets outside my jurisdiction, but now you also know that I know who you are”. It was a failed attempt to make AEC think twice about making a big deal about what he found him doing.
That’s such a dangerous hazard they created. I can imagine destroying my legs not seeing the sharp metal sticking up.

Something seems illegal when he, the cop, solicited a deal that if the citizen would give up one of his rights then he would take him ‘out of cuffs’.

I have no clue why cops thinks moving/removing signs actually changes the official jurisdiction lines. My father was career law enforcement and told me about a particularly dangerous intersection on the very edge of the county. People would often crash into the county line sign. The officers hated having to respond to accidents so far out in the hills, so each time the sign got knocked down they would knowingly reinstall it on the other side of the intersection in an attempt to make the neighboring county have to respond to the next accident. Both counties would move the sign back and forth in an attempt to shirk responding to the accidents. It got to the point neither county knew their actual jurisdiction boundaries.

This is actually really sad. They were so nice & respectful to those cops & you know those cops thought they were going to find something illegal in their car. I’m glad they sued & won $75k.

If Mr. Parker had tried to assert his rights during this traffic stop, I am quite certain these cops would have escalated it to something much worse and possibly violent. $75k pay day ain’t bad, but as a tax payer, I would prefer the cops do their job appropriately.
My sons have had many traffic stops in their youth. They claimed the cops were targeting them and were quite rude and unprofessional. It made my sons wonder why anyone would want to be a cop, and thought they were mentally unstable. As a female, I have never experienced what they went through, and now that they are older, they do not get pulled over like they did in their youth.
This city is corrupt to the core. The police had bad practices and the fact that the city included a gag order in the settlement goes just how deep the corruption goes. It’s all disgusting, and I was aghast when the man shook the officers’ hands at the end. It’s like thanking someone for smashing you upside the head with a baseball bat.

If a cop sees a citizen is “shaking like a leaf” the correct response is to DEFUSE the situation. Using it as an excuse to search someone is despicable.
Why did they remove him from the car for a turn signal, especially when video shows the blinker was going? This is so disturbing! The passengers do not have to identify themselves and certainly not provide a social security number! I hope these poor citizens have in the meantime educated themselves!

I am so glad you’re bringing light to these issues. This very thing happened to me. An officer who had a reputation for being dirty, got behind me & put his lights on after I’d made a left turn. He had been behind me for several minutes so I made sure to stop @ the stop sign & use my turn signal. He lied & said I never used my signal when turning & then receded to search my vehicle. When he found nothing he didn’t even write me a ticket bc he knew he was lying & just let me go. I never even thought about how he’d violated my rights until I started watching your channel. The only thing I was worried about when Mr. Parker consented to the search was the possibility of the officers planting illegal substances. I’ve seen cops do that on this channel before.

Nothing will change unless these law suit settlements come directly from the police union pension fund. That way, these settlements will affect every single officer and their bottom line. That would hopefully ignite and motivate good cops to weed out the bad cops.

This guy did everything right, IMO. He remained extremely polite despite being treated wrongly, he never once became upset, disrespectful, or argumentative. I’m glad they received the settlement from the dept for that awful behavior, but I would have personally pushed to remove that stipulation about criticism.

  • Okay, hear me out. There are so many of these videos here on Youtube. Always the same exact scenario where the cop throws a fit about a guy with a camera doing absolutely nothing illegal. I’m just an old washed up dart player but I even know what you can and cannot do with a camera and I would even know, depending on what state you live in that you can’t demand ID from someone who is doing nothing wrong. So basically WTF is wrong with all these cops? Is it an ego thing? I definitely feel like the Chief is the type who feels he is above the law. “His parking lot” over and over. First of all, it’s not “his” parking lot. He doesn’t own it and works for the people. This shit pisses me off! Cops apparently need MUCH better training than they have now.

  • Whilst I can understand the frustration of those officers, they really do need to be up to date in what is and is not allowable under the law. They looked chumps as they were in the wrong.

  • These are the kind of thuggish cops which you encounter regularly in these types of jurisdictions. The local citizens are typically afraid to stand up to them since this is, quite frankly, all they know.

  • I’ve been robbed, assaulted, publicly harassed, crashed into, threatened with guns, etc. Never once did the police catch any of the people who did these things, unless it required the absolute minimum effort because the person who crashed into me totaled their car. Conversely, I’ve been harassed & intimidated by police semi-regularly throughout my life -just because they were bored & feeling the need to bully. The only time I met a nice officer was when my mom was dating him when I was a kid. Thus to me, the vast majority of cops are lazy/incompetent and the rest are bullies.
  • Im 60 and every interaction I’ve had with Police has been a difficult one throughout my life. Ive always been treated like a criminal every time… Trying to acuse me of things i haven’t done or downright lying to me for no reasons at at. No benefit to anyone, just an excuse to stand over and intimidate me because im an ugly man…if i was a blonde woman with a lovely face it would be completely different.

  • The shame of it is the city attorney said they acted appropriately. The chief and locals also say they acted appropriately. The locals are probably terrified to do anything because they’ll be arrested
    • Pooler is just out side of Savannah where I lived for over 20 years and everyone knows that the Pooler police will write tickets for the most minor and insignificant infractions. For example, there was a women giving a ticket for driving while distracted because while she sat at a red light she took one hand off the steering wheel to take a bite of a sandwich.
    • So the City attorney agreed that it was proper for the Sgt. to demand ID with no RAS, that it was legal to trespass him out of the parking lot, that it was proper to restrict his access to city services because he was recording, that he was required to identify himself in a public complaint, that it was proper for the Sgt. to accept the complaint on his superior officer? Are you sure he was really an attorney or maybe he just plays one on TV? I guess he will have a second crack at these question in court. As Mr. T would say, “I pity the fool.”

  • Officers took an oath to uphold their State and Federal Constitutions, which means affirming the constitutionally protected rights of US citizens. The law-abiding citizen has no obligation to provide ID under such circumstances, it is the police who have to jump over the legal hurdles such as reasonable suspicion and probable cause to detain, ask for ID, or arrest. I developed training on this for officers as far back as 2014, even then officers did not like the idea of having limited power in such situations. Ego maybe? Unfortunately, more training and regular training are needed nationwide in this area, which would save a lot of grief, embarrassment, and tax dollars. This was an unnecessary power struggle between the officers, the Chief, and the filmer. Regardless of the filmer’s true intentions, his rights should be affirmed. The fact that the police are called, that someone doesn’t like the filmer lawfully being there, doesn’t override the filmer’s constitutional rights. Once the filmer’s lawful status is determined, they should be free to carry on, without interference.
  • I can only imagine what these small town cops do to people . That is a real bad State a Canadian woman was arrested her car towed and she was put in jail. The small town cop who didn’t know that Canadians are allowed to drive in the USA with there Canadian drivers license just like Americans are allowed to drive in Canada with there US license

  • the “employee” with the beard and glasses is just as guilty as the sergeant and the chief by his omission to act. he witnessed the behaviour of the sergeant and the chief and was complicit in their actions. he probably knows that the chief and the sergeant are a pair of idiots and thought no way am i getting involved with this. he`s the type of guy that disappears in a bar room brawl.
  • I understand why and what you are doing and strongly believe doing so is an important audit of public employees. If you want to report on this unconstitutional behavior it is my opinion it would be much better done without the descriptive editorializing (“tyrant, Bully, making fun of someone’s name) which reduces the effectiveness of the reporting and appears childish. This audit work is important yet diminished in it’s reporting by this.

You can tell she was annoyed with the call, understandably so. But she handled it professionally and resolved concerns of both parties. Model behavior of a peace officer and any public servant.
A police officer that knows the law is a dangerously endangered species. Well done Deputy Parker you are an example to the rest of the cops in this country.
Parker is the type of officer we need. I didn’t think saying “their on the internet looking like fools” was a wise choice of words.

Just one day, I would like a cop to walk up and say … “Hello citizen, we have receive a report of a suspicious person in the area, have you seen anybody acting suspiciously in this area?”
If there ever was an example of a perfect audit on all sides, this is it. One may argue that the oil workers were in the wrong by calling the police, but in this case, they were naive to the laws, handled it in a respectful manner, and even laughed about their misunderstanding of the law. I commend the officer for clearly defining the law to the workers.
Parker felt no compulsion to boss around the auditor and didn’t seem to have any ego issues at all. She honored her oath and brought honor to police. Good on her!
I love cops who know the law. I was homeless for awhile and looked up “right to rest” laws so i could sleep in my car in a residential area if I was on the road. The cops got called on me, told me i could stay there and didn’t have to go, they wished me a good night. Bless them
One of the things I like most about the AtA channel is that you guys show when a cop has “done good” as well as showing when it goes the other way. Fair and balanced.
“Suspicion” with no RAS of a crime is nothing but assumption. Anyone can be suspicious of anyone else, but you cant have them detained, nevermind arrested just because you think they’re suspicious. Hats off to the officer for knowing rights and actual law. Need more like her
