The West Point Professor Who Contemplated a Coup

The goal of the West is neither territorial nor imperial: it is simply to discredit Islamism and destroy the will of Muslims to fight on its behalf, thereby to make possible, if they allow it, a civilizational coexistence, or, if they will not, to wipe Islamism, and if need be its adherents, from the earth.

.. he has been circulating an article for publication entitled, “Alea Iacta Est: The U.S. Coup of 2017.” The abstract is strewn with thinly-veiled references to President Obama, asking, for example, “What conditions precedent would be required before the American military would be justified in using or threatening force to oust a U.S. president attempting to ‘fundamentally transform the United States of America’?”

What techniques might infantrymen use to disable a unit of 5 Leopard tanks, working in conjunction with a platoon of soldiers?

It was a fierce battle, it took a few minutes, but when it ended, Hezbollah lost 13 terrorists, and the tank had a few dents and scratches.

Had there been another tank nearby, all it would have to do is radio the first tank crew to get inside, shut down the hatches and and then it would spray it with machine gun fire.
That would have ended the event within seconds.
And that’s with just two tanks

So, like I said previously: Basically, run.

What is a member of the US Armed Forces supposed to do if they believe that a superior officer has given them an illegal order?

A military service member is obligated not to follow that order. He or she should inform the officer that this is an illegal order and let it be known that they will not comply. Customs and courtesies dictate that you should make some statement to the effect of:

With all due respect, sir, I believe that to be an unlawful order, and I respectfully decline to obey it.

Such a statement is meant to give an officer, unknowing of his offense opportunity to clarify or belay the order.

.. Military personnel do have a choice when facing any form of punishment in the military. They can refuse this punishment in lieu of a Military Court Martial. What they are asking for is to be tried in a military court of law for their own crime. What they are effectively doing is getting the chance to get the entire business out in the open where, if they have made the correct choices, they will be acquitted and that officer will likely have a great deal of explaining to do, probably in the form of a Court Martial themselves.

Bernie Sanders’ surge is partly fueled by veterans

Sanders battled over veterans issues as chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee from 2013 until early this year, giving him an easy pitch to a crucial voting bloc of veterans, particularly in South Carolina where veterans make up more than 11 percent of the voting-aged population. There’s stiff competition for these voters, with front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton wooing them this month during a round table in Nevada.

.. Last summer, the bill fixing wait times at hospitals appeared to be heading for defeat. Faced with possibility that Congress would adjourn without enacting it, Sanders joined forces with John McCain, the Arizona Republican and GOP presidential nominee in 2008.

.. McCain said working with Sanders involved “very stimulating conversations, and the occasional four-letter word.”

.. “He advocates vigorously for what he believes in, and so do I,” McCain said. “I can’t say it was the most enjoyable experience, but it was certainly one of the most interesting.”

.. Veterans are a group long courted by politicians. In the early primary states, New Hampshire is home to 113,000 veterans, Iowa has 226,000, Nevada has 227,000 and South Carolina has 392,000 — according to US Census figures.
